17 families joined us for our first weekend camp of 2026 in the beautiful surrounds of Lake Beedelup at Karri Valley in the Beedelup National Park just outside Pemberton. Those visiting Karri Valley for the first time were amazed by the stunning scenery and peacefulness of the area, for families who may have previously visited, it was a welcome reminder of how being immersed around nature can bring a sense of balance, calm and tranquility amongst the hustle and bustle of daily life.
For those with energy to burn, Saturday morning began with a leisurely walk around Lake Beedelup to the Beedelup Falls, a very impressive set of waterfalls with walkways and bridges that allow hikers to walk over the falls with water rushing below.
Back at camp and it was time to break out the Kayaks and head out onto the lake. The kids especially loved paddling out onto the water to explore the area.
Once back on dry land it was time for a lunchtime sausage sizzle, followed by taking advantage of the impressive range of activities available around the campsite. Archery, Animal Feeding and Mini Golf were just some of the options available, and very popular they were.
Saturday afternoon and evening were spent relaxing at the camp lodge with indoor and outdoor games for the kids, a chance to relax and chat for the parents, all followed by dinner served in probably the fanciest camp kitchen most of us have seen! It was during dinner that we revealed the results of our communal camp art project we ran over the course of the weekend. Our Camp Karri, where family members could each write a message about what camp means to them on a leaf, and then all the leaves get put onto a beautiful picture of one of the main native trees of the area, a Karri.
Sunday morning as ever came too quickly and it was back to reality as another wonderful gathering of friends started to disperse. The all too brief escape to a stunningly serene location provided our families with the chance to connect or reconnect with friends, recharge their batteries and experience nature at its finest. The memories of this camp will last long in the minds of many in all the best ways
Thanks to Tiff, Cliff, Megan and Ben for all of your hard work in organising and running the camp, and we look forward to our next get together in Whiteman Park in May
